This course is for healthcare professionals such as therapists, nurses, doctors, psychologists, counsellors, social workers, care workers and others working with people who have been bereaved.

Death can be very distressing. Care and healthcare professionals often experience anxiety and fear, alongside other important considerations when working with death, bereavement and loss. This is particularly relevant in the current unprecedented COVID19 context.

This course will

  • enhance knowledge, understanding, skills
  • help delegates feel empowered, confident and emotionally available in their roles.

Method and Content– The programme includes theoretical input, information and advice, experiential learning and opportunities to self-reflect, practice, discuss and process, in a supportive environment.

  • Bereavement as a social issue
  • Key bereavement theories
  • Bereavement and loss in the current COVID19 context
  • Explore social and cultural factors that influence bereavement
  • Practical advice/case studies on how to work with bereavement, especially

within the context of the current pandemic.

Tutor Urtzi Cristobal is a UKCP registered psychotherapist, BACP accredited counsellor/psychotherapist, a supervisor and a tutor at the Gestalt Centre. Has over 10 years’ experience in Palliative Care and supervises therapists and doctors who work in the field. He teaches internationally to healthcare professionals in palliative care as well as professionals of the funeral sector.

Bereavement: An introduction to Theory and Practice

This 2-day module is for healthcare practitioners of any discipline, working with bereaved people and would like to enhance their understanding of the emotional and psychological journey involved as well as their skills and confidence working with such experiences. The material covered will include social and cultural aspects of bereavement, main theories and practical advice and support.

Therapy with bereaved clients

This one-day module complements the previous one and it is designed for counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists who are working or want to work with bereaved clients.

The nature of the module is highly experiential and will cover a number of therapeutic issues through case studies,  role-plays and supervision sessions.
